I am "refreshing" the blog, putting up some pages that were posted a while back, 'cuz I've learned that most folks don't go back to old posts. So here is some pages that were posted before, everything old is new again....

Had to get a plug in for another project I'm working on.
Way back in 1997, my friend, Joe St. Pierre and I released a comic through Image called Megahurtz. We had conceived the idea way back in '92 when both of us were employed by Valiant Comics, we pitched the concept to them, and they (thankfully) balked. We changed much about the initial concept, like the title of the book. It was gonna be called Bludgeon. But Eric Larsen, to whom I am eternally grateful for taking us under his wing, had a character with that name in Savage Dragon. My wife, Carie, came up with the name after much hand wringing.
The book ended after 3 issues because mainly, it was too much for me to juggle, as I was just starting out in animation, and trying to learn the craft.
The good news is that we have been approached to do the book for itunes!! So Joe and I have been busy coloring pages. (The book was in B&W) This is the first look at one of my color roughs for the opening splash.
I have put up a new blog to celebrate the book. It is called Friendsofmegahurtz@blogspot.com
and will feature original pencil pages, thumbnails, concept art. Check it out. It will be up and running by the middle of the week!!! With updates, just like Knights of the Sun!

His character stuff is really fun, and if you haven't checked out some of his feature development stuff in films like Watchmen, well, what are you waiting for? He has really cool development projects going as well. Can't wait to see what transpires on them in the future!!
Oh, and his comic work is amazing as well!!

More pages will be forthcoming very soon. Work progresses at a pretty good clip.
So I will be posting some more art for your naked steaming eyes very shortly.
I know most of you can't wait, so I will be posting a teaser image in the next couple of days...
Seriously, I do love all of the love being thrown my way. It is very gratifying to know that people I respect and admire think I'm doing a good job with Knights. You have no idea how inspiring that is to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

Some more wonderful Chris
Sasaki designs. This time of cowardly Diego, and his Knights alter ego, The Swamp Knight!!
I am moving along at a rather nice pace on the the finished pages, and will be posting some of them shortly.
Meanwhile, hope you enjoy the fruits of Chris' labor.

Here are some designs from the aborted pitch I had done for Disney and Nickelodeon. The designs are by the super talented Chris Sasaki. It is a damn shame nothing ever came of these...
First up is Juan Carlos Martinez, our intrepid boy inventor/hero, and his Knights persona, the Monkey Knight!!

Just wanted to send a big Knights shout out to the Magnificent Beth Sleven, and Karmic Kelsey Mann, who lent their time and talent to help yours truly out with setting up this blog.
Especially Ms. Sleven, who I'm sure had better things to do on a Sunday night to help me reconfigure the page you are reading.
I'm such a newbie to the blogosphere, but with such good friends, I'm catching up fast!
Be sure to check out their blogs in the Friends of the Knights section!
You'll be real glad you did!

Okay, the first of the finished pages are done. This baby still needs to be colored, which will add
something else to it. So maybe "finished" isn't the right word.
I am pretty pleased, and am a couple of more pages into this.
As always, feedback is always appreciated.

Hey Guys and Gals,
Whilst I'm busy finishing up pages from the roughs, I thought I'd post more unused character designs. I have included the Jaguar God, who I designed here as a dude, but he is now a she.
So out with this (kinda cool) design. A shame, as I really like the look. Maybe he'll make a comeback in a future ish, ya' never know.
The book is based on Mayan/Aztec mythology so I am using the gods of said myths to be the heroes and villains of the book.
Anyway, let me know if you likey.
I'm gonna be posting a couple of finished pages very shortly.
I will also be posting a synopsis of the book as well, so you know what the heck it's all about.
To whet everyone's appetite, I'll also be posting some more character designs and color roughs.
Go PENS!!!!!!!!!!! Bring Lord Stanley HOME!!!!

Some images from character designs that I may or may not use. I am debating using the middle
one of the Snake Knight, I may use the design but probably NOT for her. These were when I was developing the project for Cartoon Network, and going back and looking at them now, I still really really like 'em!..I dunno, what do you guys think?

Finished up the first chapter of Knights this afternoon. I am very pleased with the first book, and can't wait to start doing actual pages for you to see.
My main focus to make sure that everyone really gets these character's personalities. It went a lot smoother than I anticipated, probably because I've had these characters and their story in my head for a long time now. Although it went from 8 pages to 16 to 22 to 45!! I let them do the talking and didn't try to "rush" them so it came out to what it came out to. I may try to trim here and there, but honestly, I found the story needed the room.
After several years of pitching this concept to Cartoon Network, Disney, Nelvana and getting a favorable response from all, only to have it dashed or "tweaked" to a point of unrecognizability,
I finally feels good to do this on my own. The way I always intended.
There are so many stories to tell, that I want to make sure the origin isn't boring or feels rote.
I am confident that by the time it is completely finished, it won't .

Spent the last week finishing up the thumbnails for issue one.
It will be about 45 pages in all, up from the 16 I originally intended.
Whew, it is a lot of work. But somehow much easier than I thought too. Although it only tells about half of the origin story.
Can't wait to start producing the pages.

This is actually the first pinup image I put together for
Knights. It was really only the second or third time I've
"painted" a background in photoshop. I really like the results of the BG.
It is so cool that the Pens swept the Hurricanes. It just looks like the Pens are really peaking at the right time.
If they do have a rematch with the Red Wings for the cup, I really like our chances.

Did a bunch of sketches for Eagle Knight. It's tough not to make him look like Hawkman, one of the best Superhero designs EVER! But I think I like the look of the character designs in the middle. I have decided to go more anthropomorphic with the heroic characters. It seems more natural to me. I will have another cover up here shortly, along with a first pass at the Knights'
Game Four between the Pens and the 'Canes. Pens go for the sweep, so get out those brooms!!

Geno Malkin is a beast!!
Also, will be posting some conceptual stuff for a couple of other projects gestating in the next couple of days as well......
